Святой Николай был епископом IV века в Мире Ликийской в Малой Азии и является одним из самых популярных святых во всем христианском мире. Он стал знаменит благодаря своей великой благотворительности, наиболее ярким примером которой стало тайное дарение приданого трем бедным сестрам, что породило легенду о «Святом Николае» или «Санта-Клаусе». В церковных обществах его чтят как «Чудотворца» за многочисленные чудеса, приписываемые ему как при жизни, так и после его кончины. Также как отец Церкви он активно участвовал в I Вселенском Соборе в Никее в 325 году н.э., защищая православную веру. Его память отмечается 6 декабря, и он является покровителем моряков, купцов, судей и, прежде всего, детей.
