Description

Saint Nicholas was a 4th-century bishop of Myra in Lycia in Asia Minor and is one of the most popular saints throughout the Christian world. He is famous for his great charity, the most notable example being the secret gift of dowry he left to three poor sisters, which gave rise to the legend of "Saint Nicholas" or "Santa Claus". In the Ecclesiastical Associations he is honored as the "Miracle Worker" for the numerous miracles attributed to him both during his lifetime and after his death. Also, as a father of the Church, he actively participated in the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, defending the Orthodox faith. His memory is celebrated on December 6th and he is the patron saint of sailors, merchants, judges and, above all, children.
