Η Αγία Αικατερίνη ήταν μια διανόητη και πιστή Χριστιανή από τη μεγάλη πόλη της Αλεξάνδρειας, που έζησε στις αρχές του 4ου αιώνα μ.Χ. κατά τη διάρκεια των διωγμών του αυτοκράτορα Μαξιμίνου. Έμεινε γνωστή για την ευφυΐα και την ευσέβειά της, καθώς και για τον θαρραλέο της διάλογο με πενήντα φιλοσόφους που προσπάθησαν ανεπιτυχώς να την πείσουν να εγκαταλείψει την πίστη της. Η Αγία Αικατερίνη βασανίστηκε μερικώς και τελικά μαρτύρησε με αποκεφαλισμό, χωρίς να παραιτηθεί από την πίστη της. Σύμφωνα με την παράδοση, το λείψανό της μεταφέρθηκε από αγγέλους στη Μονή της Αγίας Αικατερίνης στη Σινά, όπου θεωρείται προστάτιδα της πόλης. Η μνήμη της τιμάται στις 25 Νοεμβρίου και αποτελεί σύμβολο θάρρους, σοφίας και πίστης.
