Ο Γολγοθάς, γνωστός και ως «Κρανίου Τόπος», ήταν ο χώρος έξω από τα τείχη της Ιερουσαλήμ όπου, σύμφωνα με τα Ευαγγέλια, εκτελέστηκε με σταύρωση ο Ιησούς Χριστός. Το όνομά του προέρχεται πιθανώς από το λατινικό calvaria, που σημαίνει κρανίο, είτε λόγω της μορφολογίας του λόφου είτε λόγω της παράδοσης ότι εκεί ήταν θαμμένο το κρανίο του Αδάμ. Αποτέλεσε τον χώρο όπου συγκεντρώθηκαν, σύμφωνα με την Καινή Διαθήκη, η Παναγία, ο αγαπημένος μαθητής Ιωάννης και άλλες πιστές γυναίκες για να παρακολουθήσουν το πάθος. Στον ίδιο χώρο, σύμφωνα με τους τρεις συνοπτικούς ευαγγελιστές, σταυρώθηκαν επίσης δύο ληστές, ο ένας εκ των οποίων μετανοησε. Σήμερα, η ακριβής τοποθεσία του Γολγοθά ταυτίζεται από πολλούς Χριστιανούς με το σημείο μέσα στην Εκκλησία του Παναγίου Τάφου στην Ιερουσαλήμ, όπου τιμάται ως ο τόπος της Σταύρωσης και της Αναστάσεως.
