Святой Христофор, один из самых популярных святых народного агиографического предания, по преданию был гигантом с исключительной силой, жившим в Ханаане. Изначально его звали Репробос, и он стремился служить, желая найти самого могущественного владыку, пока один отшельник не посоветовал ему помогать путникам пересекать опасную реку. Однажды ночью, перенося маленького мальчика, он обнаружил, что вес стал невыносимым, так как ребёнок оказался самим Христом, «несущим мир». Это событие принесло ему имя Христофор (несущий Христа). Немного позже он исповедовал свою веру в Иисуса и принял мученическую смерть за нее, поэтому его почитают как Покровителя Водителей и Путешественников.
