Святой Ефрем Сирин был выдающимся мыслителем, поэтом и теологом IV века, который родился в Нисибисе, в Месопотамии. После жизни в уединении он стал учителем и проповедником, написав множество гимнов, стихотворений и богословских трудов, обогащающих христианскую литературу. Его творчество известно своей аскетической направленностью и глубокой эмоциональностью, выражающей покаяние и милосердие Бога, что принесло ему титул «Звук Божьей Гитары». Хотя он не был священником, его назначили диаконом, и он служил местной христианской общине. Сегодня он почитается как святый, а память его празднуется 28 января, при этом его труды остаются значимыми как для Православной, так и для Римско-католической церкви.
