Святой Нектарий (1846-1920), в миру Анастасий Кефалас, родился в бедной семье в Силиврии Фракии и с раннего возраста тяжело работал в Константинополе, сохраняя при этом глубокое стремление к знаниям и духовной жизни. После того как он принял постриг и изучал богословие в Афинах, он был рукоположен митрополитом Пентаполиса в Александрии, откуда был изгнан из-за клеветы и зависти. Вернувшись в Грецию, он принял различные церковные обязанности (в основном в качестве директора Школы Ризарио) и в 1904 году основал Монастырь Святой Троицы на Эгине, где удалился и провёл последние годы смиренно. Несмотря на тяжёлое физическое страдание (рак предстательной железы), он оставался примером терпения и веры, скончавшись 8 ноября 1920 года. Церковь канонизировала его в 1961 году, и сегодня он почитается как чудотворный покровитель слабых, больных, а также как "Святой терпения".
