Голгофа, также известная как «Место Черепа», была местом за стенами Иерусалима, где, согласно Евангелиям, был распят Иисус Христос. Название, вероятно, происходит от латинского слова calvaria, означающего череп, либо из-за формы холма, либо из-за традиции, что там был похоронен череп Адама. Это место, согласно Новому Завету, посещали Дева Мария, любимый ученик Иоанн и другие верные женщины, чтобы присутствовать при страданиях. В этом же месте, согласно трём синоптическим евангелистам, были распяты также два разбойника, один из которых раскаялся. Сегодня точное место Голгофы многие христиане отождествляют с местом внутри Церкви Святого Гроба в Иерусалиме, где оно почитается как место Распятия и Воскресения.
